The revamped Movano Evie Ring is now back on sale, as Movano has a second go and its female-focused smart ring.
The company had to pull its smart ring earlier this year, after the initial launch was beset by supply and technical issues.
The resulting avalanche of complaints caused the company to pause sales of the ring – and make improvements to the hardware.
The company has made changes to the construction to reduce defects caused by the ring’s unique open design.
But it’s also adding more detailed AI-based insights that highlight correlations between users’ menstrual cycle, heart health, sleep, mood, and energy.
The Evie Ring will also gain auto activity detection to sense when users are biking, jogging, walking, as well as improved accuracy in both sleep and heart rate during activity
And an Android version of the app shortly, which should be live before the end of the year.
We spoke to Movano CEO John Mastrototaro, who talked about how the company was overwhelmed by the demand for Evie.
“In fairness, the reception’s been mixed. On the positive side, people love the female focus of the ring,” he said. “Where we had some challenges as a small company is the availability. People were excited about getting the ring, and they wanted to get it right away. Unfortunately, due to various issues, we couldn’t get it to them as quickly as they wanted it, and that put a strain on our customer service line as well.”
Movano had a lot of goodwill and interest around its launch, riding the smart ring wave with something laser focused on women.
Our review sample stopped worked – and we had to write an early testing based on our experiences. But even in that time, our reviewer was non-plussed about some of the accuracy and the level of insights on offer.
Movano will inevitably have burned a lot of that goodwill, but it has another chance. It’s problem is that there are a lot of very good smart rings out there. It’s relying on the excellent price, subscription free model and women centric features to cut through once again.
