Trek USCX, The premier professional cyclocross series in the US, kicked off over the weekend at Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross p/b Fat Tire, in Roanoke, Virginia with victory going to Andrew Strohmeyer (CXD Trek bikes) and Hélène Clauzel (Van Rysel Racing Team) in the C1 events on Saturday.

Strohmeyer got off to a strong start, taking the lead early in the first lap and then holding it for the rest of the hour-long, 24km race as Kerry Werner (Groove Off Road Racing) and Scott Funston (Cervelo Orange Living) chased hard at 35 seconds back but failed to claw back any time.

In the women’s C1 race, Lauren Zoerner (Competitive Edge Racing) got out to the early lead with a hole shot, but the race would come back together one lap one of the six-lap, 50-minute race, and a lead group of five formed.

Sydney McGill (Cervelo Orange Living) Clauzel, Caroline Mani (Groove Off Road Racing), Manon Bakker (Crelon/Corendon Race Team), and Katie Clouse (Steve Tilford Racing Foundation) stayed together through the second lap, but Clouse fell off the pace on lap three.

The podium securing moves happened on lap four as McGill and Clauzel left Mani and Bakker behind on lap held on for the top two spots. That same lap, Mani put in an attack on Bakker and held the position to finish third overall.
