The popular Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR) events continue to grow in 2025 with an expansion of the marquee BWR CA along with a new event in Bozeman, Montana. Additionally, BWR is launching the Quad-Tripel Crown of Gravel Series, an omnium series combining the four BWR events.
Inspired by Belgian classic road races, BWR started as an “un-road” race over 10 years ago in Southern California and takes riders across a series of hard-pack, gravel, and other terrain, as well as plenty of tarmac. Since then BWR has grown into a series with events across North America, each offering a completely unique course and terrain.
BWR CA, the original BWR event, is relocating in 2025 to a new location at the Del Mar Polo Fields at Surf Sports Park near the San Diego airport. The new venue will allow for an expanded festival and weekend of events April 25-27. Beyond the BWR races, weekend festivities include a new 5km costume run and a new gran fondo event called the Belgian Waffle Roadie-Oh that consists of 100-mile, 100-kilometer, and 50-kilometer options. The larger venue will also host a race expo with 75 vendors.
The expansion provides many more options for cyclists and non-cyclists alike to enjoy the weekend in the San Diego area. And the festival is donating some proceeds to Curebound, a nonprofit supporting cancer research.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Belgian Waffle Ride Festival to the Del Mar Polo Fields,” said Michael Marckx, founder of BWR. “This venue is not only beautiful, but it offers accessibility and the community vibe we’ve always wanted for this event. It’s more than just a change of scenery; it’s an opportunity to elevate the BWR experience while supporting a great cause in Curebound.”
Bozeman, Montana becomes the latest BWR host
BWR MT in Bozeman, Montana joins the lineup of BWR events this year, on June 29. It is part of the BWR Quad-Tripel Crown of Gravel Series which scores elite and age group riders based on their best placing at three of four BWR events. The other events in the series are BWR AZ (March 1), BWR CA (April 27), and BWR UT (May 24). The series is for both the longest “waffle” courses and shorter “wafer” courses.
Prizes are yet to be announced.
