Shoulders with a plank HW 128
The oblique muscles are located on the sides of the abdomen, running diagonally between the lower ribs and the pelvis. There are two sets of oblique muscles:
- External Obliques: These are the outermost layer of oblique muscles. They are located on each side of the abdomen, starting from the lower ribs and extending diagonally downward toward the pelvis. The external obliques are responsible for rotating the torso, flexing the spine, and helping to stabilize the core.
- Internal Obliques: Located just beneath the external obliques, the internal obliques run in the opposite direction. They extend from the lower ribs and the pelvis, running diagonally upward toward the midline of the body. The internal obliques work with the external obliques to assist with trunk rotation, lateral flexion (bending to the side), and core stabilization.
Together, these muscles play a crucial role in movements that involve twisting or bending the torso, as well as in maintaining overall core stability.
